Cystic Artery Identification During Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

During 200 laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed by the author, the anatomy of the cystic artery and/or arteries was described. Several variations were noted and a simplified classification of five types is given to aid the surgeon in identifying that structure during the procedure, thus avoiding inadvertent injury which could result in hemorrhage.
