Abstract
The term ‘eicosanoid’ was introduced by Corey et al. [1] and comprises a large and complex family of compounds derived from 20-carbon polyunsaturated fatty acids, among which arachidonic acid is the most biologically relevant. This group of substances includes prostaglandins, thromboxanes, leukotrienes, hydroperoxy- and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids (HPETEs and HETEs), hepoxilins, lipoxins, triox-ilins, nonleukotriene dihydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids (DiHETEs) and isoprostanes. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
