Pacific Islands - Regional Oceans Cape Program Project : environmental and social management framework

The development objective of the Regional Oceans Cape Program Project for Pacific Islands is to strengthen the shared management of selected Pacific Island oceanic and coastal fisheries, and the critical habitats upon which they depend. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) alternative livelihoods program or blue carbon financing to offset restrictions to natural resources and protected areas; (2) support, equipment, and training provided to participating communities for management, monitoring, and surveillance activities; (3) design infrastructure in accordance with local climate and good environmental practices; (4) well-coordinated and documented community consultation to ensure inclusive and transparent process for benefit sharing agreements; and (5) waste management measures detailed in environmental management plan and handled by suitably qualified persons.
