Abstract

A static VAr compensator (SVC) of 154 kV and 60 MVA ratings was developed with the largest capacity thyristors of 8 kV and 3.5 kA in the world. The SVC was commissioned by the Kansai Electric Power Company in 1996 and has shown good performance. This paper presents the following items: system design of the SVC (hardware and software); field test results; and the effects of SVC application.
