Abstract

This paper discusses the contributions of software quality assurance (SQA) to the overall software product development effort. It describes the relationship of software quality assurance to project management and the software life cycle. SQA contributions are categorized into eight major software assurance activities. The impact of software quality assurance on the management equation of cost, schedule, and performance is emphasized. This paper responds to a challenge issued during the 1983 RAMS Software Reliability Progress session.
