System Integration in the Contemporary Business Information Systems: Framework, Implementation and Case Study

Starting from the analysis of the three terms, enterprise integration, information integration and system integration, which are widely used in the integration research and practice, closely related but still distinguishable, this paper unifies enterprise integration, information integration to system integration, thus builds a system integration framework for the contemporary enterprise information systems. With EAI as a solution for system integration, the author also addresses the technical implementation of system integration in enterprise context. The case of SwissCom is introduced as a successful EAI solution in a leading company of telecommunication industry in Swiss. More importantly, the system integration framework could be used to investigate the evolution of contemporary business information systems based on the analysis of the limitations of Nolan's Stage Hypothesis'.
