Abstract

manufdcture of leather fumiture involves scvenl processes. Of p&dm interest to us is the nesting and cuiting prmsses. The nesting problem in the leather industry is the problem of pladng a set of irregularly shaped pieces (called remphtes) on a plane irreyLvly shaped surface, such that no temphtes ovedap and that the aim loss produced when cutdog out the templates is ised. The current manual nesdng pmcess has many shortcomings that results in low productivity. In order m over~me the shortcomings, automation has bcen introduced in the leather cutting process. ?his paper discwsef the automadon of the leather cutting process and the productivity improvement as a direct result of it.
