This thesis reviews the oversize and overweight vehicle regulations of the New England states and compares these regulations to previous research in the area of size and weight regulation and its effects on the economics of interstate commerce. An analysis of the oversize and overweight permits issued in 1985 by five of these states was performed to determine if there would be sufficient reduction in the number of permits that would have to be issued to justify the establishment of a system for issuing permits which would be valid in more than one state. Most of the states could realize a 30% reduction in the number of permits issued for interstate travel.
