Computers and the improvement of writing

Writing with a computer text editor can simplify and enhance the writing process and product. This paper discusses how some recent research on writing can guide use of the text editor to improve writing and to make it more enjoyable. The context of the discussion is formal writing instruction in courses at Teachers College. This new writing tool seems to make the writing process different in critical ways that decrease the psychological and physical constraints in writers.
