Abstract

Digital signal processing refers to the electronic processing of signals. DSPs are essentially super fast number crunchiers and just about any application that involves rapid numeric processing is a candidate for digital signal processing. With the growing need for base stations, which offers an operator a way to transition towards 3rd generation technologies, base stations will adopt software defined radio technology to produce a communication platform. It will provide simultaneous radio frequency coverage. The present paper deals with the overview of the application of signal processing algorithms and communications software technology in a wireless communication system such as mobile communication in terms of (i) investment preservation (ii) scalable functionality (iii) ease of platform transition (iv) flexible system configuration.
