Abstract
Outlines the system of measuring structural movements and deformations based on the theory of theodolite intersection, which was developed by the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Leeds. Illustrates the principles involved and discusses the several systems available. Describes the two structural engineering projects carried out by the Civil Engineering Department at Leeds, concerned with the deformations induced in eccentrically loaded columns and in stiffened steel structures. Suggests that structural engineers concerned with monitoring movement would be well advised to consider the use of theodolite intersection systems.
