Abstract

With the concept of complementary media, this letter develops a formula to derive the material parameters for designing three-dimensional (3-D) external invisibility cloaks with arbitrary shapes. By choosing the similar boundaries of the core region, the complementary region and the hidden region, only radial coordinate transformation is implemented for 3-D external invisibility cloak. To verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed formula, we design several 3-D complementary invisibility cloaks with different shapes. Full-wave simulation results demonstrate that 3-D arbitrary complementary invisibility cloaks designed by the proposed formula have good performance for cloaking objects and simultaneously generating the illusion images.
