Abstract

Drought stress at any stage of crop growth can be resulted in an irreversible reduction in growth of crops. Seed priming is a practical method for improve seed germination and seedling establishment of oil rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) under stress conditions. A controlled study was conducted to comparison of several chemicals seed priming such as urea, potassium nitrate (KNO3) and poly ethylene glycol (PEG) and their effects on rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) germination and early growth. The first experiment did to comparison urea with PEG that included four levels: 0, -0.5, -0.10 and -0.15 bar. Second experiment did to comparison KNO3 with PEG, included three levels (0, -0.5 and -0.10 bar). Urea and potassium nitrate had no significant effects on rapeseed germination percentage; while, seed priming with PEG significantly affected germination percentage, radicle and seedling length. Seed priming with urea and PEG had the higher effect on seedling and radicle length, respectively.
