Abstract

The cultivation of oil-producing plants constitutes a large part of agricultre throughout the world and in central Europe the opium poppy is one of the most important of such plants. Popularly, the opium poppy is referred to simply as poppy. Each year an increasingly larger acerage is cultivated for poppy production in Germany primarily for the production of the high-grade oil. The opium poppy is not only an oil-producing plant but also furnishes opium and its valuable alkaloids, all irreplacable in medicine. (Author)
