Abstract

The method of moments (MoM) has become widely used and accepted in computational electromagnetics. In the area of EMC the MoM has some major advantages compared to other methods. It directly provides a solution for noise currents and voltages EMC engineers are frequently interested in, and free space radiation is automatically included. Once the solution of the problem has been computed the question arises whether the results are convergent, numerically stable, and reliable. Do the results conform to the physical requirements and are they related to the real situation? In this paper guidelines are given in order to find answers to these questions. Checking the credibility of numerical results is strongly recommended in any case. The validation phase may take time and thus may be relevant to the cost accounting of an EMC analysis project.
