Abstract
This paper describes an innovative phased array antenna for maritime satellite communications. The antenna consists of a near spherical aperture with 26 radiating elements that allow very good hemispherical coverage and a nearly constant gain down to very low elevation angles. The antenna is suitable for L-band satellite systems like Inmarsat or Thuraya.
