In the light of the important results recently obtained in the SU6 combination of non-relativistic spin and SU3 symmetry, we rediscuss the problem of SU3 triplets which would be the basic building blocks of mesons and baryons, concentrating on the case where the basic particles would have integral electric charge. In this case, whereas the SU3 structure of mesons and baryons is known to be compatible with many different basic triplet models, SU6 properties reduce the ambiguity to a large degree. If the number of basic triplets is kept to the minimum, which is two in the case of integral charges, one model appears to be strongly preferred on grounds of simplicity. It contains six basic particles of baryon number 1 and spin 1/2, forming an SU3 triplet 3 (with charges 1, 0, 0) and an SU3 triplet 3 (with charges 0, 1, 1). The SU6 structure of baryons and mesons is studied in the framework of this model. The effect of the supercharge (i.e. of the additional quantum number occurring in the Gell-Mann-Nishijima formula when integrally charged triplet exist) on the baryon magnetic moments is estimated. It is expected to be less than 35 % on the proton to neutron moment ratio and less than 20 % on the lambda to neutron moment ratio. The rank three Lie groups which most naturally describe possible higher internal symmetries for the six basic particles (SO6 and Sp6) are combined with spin, and the resulting non-relativistic coupling of all mesons to be baryons is found to belong to one single representation instead of two in the case of SU6.
