Abstract
As the millennium comes to an end, we can step back and look at engineering in general. We can assess what has been achieved and look forward, perhaps with trepidation, to what the future holds. In traditional fields such as: civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering we can celebrate the successes that have been made. Mechanical engineering shaped the 19th century and electrical and electronic engineering the 20th . I personally have no doubts that it will be the products of Software Engineering (SE) that will shape the 21st century.
