Abstract

A new approach towards a magnetic amplifier is to treat it as a non-linear variable differentiating network having a controllable time constant. Such a differentiator, used in conjunction with an amplifier and a clipper, generates square waves over a wide range of frequency. The frequency of oscillation is dependent on the ro-set characteristics of the cores. The frequency versus control current characteristic has three widely separated zones and switching from one frequency level to the other may be accomplished by a small d.c. signal or a pulse.
