Abstract

A Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) with large numbers of acid-fast spores was collected from Humboldt Bay, California, in August 1969. The spores were tentatively identified as belonging to a haplosporidan of the genus Minchinia. This is the first report of sporulation of a haplosporidan in a Pacific oyster from the United States.
