Urban Spatial Expansion Based on "Smart Growth"

Abstract

"Smart growth", a new urban development mode, was put forward by USA for dealing with urban sprawl. Urban sprawl in varying degrees also occurs in urban spatial expansion in China. In this paper, the problems in the spatial expansion of Lanzhou City are discussed based on analyzing the actuality of population growth and industrial and spatial expansion in Lanzhou City, and the concept of "smart growth" is use as a source of reference for formulating the scientific and rational strategy of urban spatial development in Lanzhou City.
