Safeguards for burning waste-derived fuel in cement kilns

Abstract
The author responds to the charge that the cement industry is insufficiently regulated when using waste-derived fuel to fire cement kilns. The operating limits for Ash Grove's no.2 kiln at its Louisville, Nebraska, facility are outlined, along with descriptions of the instrumentation required to monitor them. The conclusion is drawn that the numerous safeguards required when burning waste-derived fuel indicate that the cement industry is adequately regulated.>
