Abstract
Regional Innovation System(RIS) is a new model for regional development and it could be a new means for a balanced economic development in a nation. This paper investigates the concept, definition and development process of RIS and the application of RIS in Korea. Characteristics of RIS are introduced, mainly based on existing studies. The application cases in Europe, US and Japan are discussed and in Korea and Busan as well. Discussion in policies for RIS in various countries and cases follows next. 1 This paper is part of the ICSEAD research project on industrial agglomeration.
