Abstract
This paper outlines the system integration issues that arise when novel marine electrical power systems utilising high levels of power electronic conversion and mixed modes of power delivery are designed. Particular aspects regarding quality of power supply and systems stability are described. It is argued that traditional methods of system analysis are insufficient for these novel systems and that a holistic approach is required with an integrated time and frequency domain analysis environment. It is concluded that the design and subsequent maintenance of the design-intent of electrical marine propulsion and distribution systems is conducted best when it is the responsibility of a single authority.
