Abstract
For a rod-plane gap in atmospheric air, in order to make the positive DC flashover mechanism clear, we have done the spectroscopic image processing and measured the space charge electric field in the vicinity of the rod electrode. The glow corona discharge in atmospheric air is composed by positive ion source from burst corona which occurs intermittently and regularly near the rod electrode, and the ion drift space which occupies most of the discharge gap. The mechanism of glow corona discharge which is related with corona stabilization effect is studied by the measured results of luminous spectra and space charge fields.
