Abstract
This paper, authored by members of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Rigid Pavement Design, provides an overview of the state of the art and practice in rigid pavement design. Concrete pavement design methods, key concrete pavement thickness design parameters, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design methodology, and other related areas of focus within the industry are described. Definitions are provided for the 3 types of concrete pavement that are commonly used: jointed plain concrete pavement, jointed reinforced concrete pavement, and continuously reinforced concrete pavement.
