Abstract
The author proposes a classification of the types of flysch and molasse based both on descriptive criteria (lithologic and stratigraphic characteristics) and on geological criteria (time and place of deposition). Three categories of flysch and molasse, are distinguished: orthoflysch, paraflysch and pseudoflysch, and correspondingly orthomolasse, paramolasse and pseudomolasse. These categories are further subdivided with respect to the type of trough in which they wereformed. In an attempt at synthesis, the different categories of flysch and rnolasse are enclosed in a system of reference, time-space. — R. E. King.
