Abstract
Abstract Examination of types recently discovered in Berlin revealed the following holotypes: Mus colonus BRANTS, 1827, Mus fumatus PETERS, 1878, Mus hildebrandtii PETERS, 1878, Mus microdon PETERS, 1852, Mus (Epimys) microdon victoriae MATSCHIE, 1911 and Mystromys longicaudatus NOACK, 1887. They all are recognized as belonging to the genus Mastomys. Also, statistical analyses using 80 type specimens confirms the generic separation of Mastomys, Praomys, Myomys, and Hylomyscus.
