Biographical data, unresolved questions concerning the fate of the Cárdenas collections and incongruences concerning the collecting dates are briefly discussed. Of the 176 specific and 18 infraspecific names published from Cárdenas's material of Cactaceae, a total of 73 type specimens was located at LIL. The fate of the missing specimens remains unknown.
