Abstract
Abstract Observations made at beaches on the English and Welsh coasts indicate that the depth to which sand is disturbed by wave action is small for relatively fine sand beaches, and increases with increasing wave height and energy, and as the sand becomes coarser. The area of maximum disturbance was found to be in shallow water at or inside the breaking point of the waves.
