Application of Fuzzy Control in Combined Algorithm Between Traffic Guidance and Signal Timing

Abstract

Urban traffic flow guidance system (UTFGS) and urban traffic control system (UTCS) are two main effective traffic management systems, which can make traffic flow smooth, safe and avoid traffic congestion. The coordination of UTFGS and UTCS can give decision support to navigation and signal timing at the same time, and it realize basic information sharing and get the optimal results from the point of system integration. In this paper, a combined model of traffic assignment and signal control is presented with the object to minimize congestion degree both at links and intersections. To avoid the complexity and difficulties in solving the optimal model, a fuzzy control algorithm is put forward, the input collected traffic data is described and how to convert them to fuzzy data is also interpreted in detail. Then the fuzzy control rules are listed in table to get the optimal link volumes, in the last, a test network is used to validate the algorithm for simulation
