Abstract

This paper analyzes a multi-valve protection of water hammer in long-distance Pipelines based on simulated calculation of the water transition process for a water supply project. Against the problems shown by the results, measures of a multi-valve protection have been taken. As the pipeline has a serious negative pressure phenomenon and thus non-continuous flow of fluid, air valves have been installed at bulging part in the pipeline accordingly; and as to the higher pressure caused by fast-in and slow-out air-inlet (and outlet) valve, excess-pressure escaping valves should be installed in the dry pipe openings so that the pressure in the pipeline must be within the allowable range; in terms of the diversity of operating conditions and valve function and the system equipped with a large number of compound suction and exhaust valves, multi-functional pump control valves are chosen to be installed in the pump.
