Abstract

Superconducting magnet is a key component of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES), so it is necessary to investigate into the characteristics of superconducting magnet before the SMES run in power system. In the paper, a superconducting hybrid magnet based on YBCO wires and BSCCO wires, which were from Superpower and American Superconductor Company respectively, was designed and produced, and then through the cooling test, critical current test, energy storage test, ground insulation test and exchanging power experiments with power system, the electrical specifications and low temperatures insulating performance of the superconducting magnet were investigated. The results proved that the performance of the hybrid magnet satisfied the design requirements.
