Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish the wind power potential for the wind energy resource in the Firouzkouh region of Iran. For this purpose, hourly average wind data, which were observed in the one year (2003) at the meteorological station of the Firouzkouh region, were used. The dominant wind directions, the mean values of wind speeds, Weibull parameters, the frequency distributions, and wind power density (wind class) were determined. The results show that this region, according to world classification of wind power, is in the 3rd class of power and has fairly good conditions to install the wind turbines.
