Abstract
In today's continuously spreading Internet environment network traffic is rapidly increasing, and there is a large number of network equipment technologies planned or in use. An effective and integrated management solution is required for multi-vendor and multi-technology telecommunication networks. Also, standardization is essential for network element management interfaces and network view in the Telecommunication Management Network (TMN). This paper describes a 'true' story of network management system development for a large-scale transport network operated by KDD, using a TMN, and a CORBA distributed object computing environment. Developing a full TMN system for a large-capacity telecommunication network based on new computing technologies has been a challenging task. This paper also describes a number of key lessons and knowhow which have been acquired through this project.
