Abstract

The author suggests legislation that would fund the construction of small vehicle commuter lanes (SVCLs). These highway traffic lanes would be narrower than traffic lanes today, and would accommodate vehicles no wider than 67 inches. These lanes would be dedicated lanes; instead of dedicated truck lanes that are being considered around the country. The existence of these lanes would provide an incentive for the purchase of smaller vehicles.
