Abstract

In future mobile communications, there are two important issues: one is to provide broadband (up to 10 Mbps or above) services, and the other is to utilize different radio access networks and radio resources in a more efficient way. For the first purpose, OFDM is one of the competitive schemes. This paper presents the possible characters of next generation mobile communications and discusses some issues when applying OFDM in it. We put our emphasis on the scheme of handling multiple access and the scheme of supporting multiple data rate. From comparing and analyzing the possible schemes, we give our consideration on how to apply OFDM in next generation communications.
