Abstract
Abstract This text provides an innovative multi-disciplinary social science approach to the pedagogy of contemporary tourism planning processes. The three chapters in Part I review different conceptual aspects of planning, tourism and sustainability, explored from different interdisciplinary perspectives. These perspectives preface and underpin four practitioner-based chapters in Part II. These chapters provide insights into planning in a national park and in historic destinations in the UK and highlight aspects of destination planning for disabled people. Part III contains seven applied case study chapters, written by academics from diverse cultural contexts in different parts of the globe. These chapter essays explore insights on planning, tourism and sustainability from the destinations of Dubai, Portugal, the Lebanon, Hungary, Mauritius, Latvia and Peru. These chapters provide contemporary academic research insights into different processes and approaches to planning for tourism, and particularly evaluate the extent to which they are informed by the principles of sustainability.
