Abstract

This essay seeks to present and explore new works in Zulu literature. We consider what is innovative about these works in terms of the changes that have taken place in South Africa generally and in Zulu society in particular. Although we focus on Zulu literature, our observations will be found to have general applicability also to the several African‐language literatures of South Africa (Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, Pedi, Venda, etc).
