Abstract

Energy expenditure is an important factor in evaluation of physical activity. The applicability of accelerometer in evaluation of energy expenditure in weight lifting was studied. A sensitive triaxial accelerometer was integrated to a wristwatch. The wristwatch was worn by 10 weight lift trainees during their exercise in different kinds of weight lifting sets. After the exercise the sensor data was analyzed. Statistical analysis of the data showed that the accuracy of calculation of repetitions in lifting sets was 5-11% and the variation in estimation of heights of lifts 14-32%. Due to the results the accelerometers seems to be applicable for energy expenditure estimation in weight lifting.
