Abstract
This paper addresses the issue of applying computer algebra to advanced state space analysis problems. The exact solution of matrix Lyapunov equations which allow the computation of system gramians was carried out using a computer algebra system (MapleV). Even for simple examples, the calculations involved are complex, tedious and error prone. MapleV provides symbolic and numerical results, quickly and efficiently.
