The public network in transition to broadband

The telecommunications industry is in a state of rapid transition away from the narrowband world towards broadband. The industry is migrating to wideband services as a first step, and is wrestling with many of the issues in wideband that need to be addressed to support broadband services. The author discusses some technical and business challenges, such as network traffic management, network architectures, customer premises equipment (CPE) dependencies, availability of relevant standards, and tariffing innovations being addressed in this transition from narrowband through wideband to broadband (50 Mb/s and above) services.>
