Abstract
We study a class of endomorphisms of subfactor index 2, called binary shifts, on the hyperfinite II1 factor. Invariants are identified for cocycle conjugacy and strong cocycle conjugacy classes. In particular, there is a connection between the Bratteli diagram associated with a binary shift and strong cocycle conjugacy.
