Abstract
Tests were conducted at two locations in Manitoba to determine the effect of time of planting on the chemical composition of rape and turnip rape seed. Protein content of the seed varied with dates of planting. It increased in 1963 and it tended to decrease in 1964 with delay in seeding. Oil content was negatively associated with date of planting and generally decreased with each successive delay in planting. The degree of unsaturation of the oil, represented by linoleic and linolenic acids, increased with delay in planting.
