Abstract
A fraction of neutral steroids having the mobility of reference steroid glucuronides was obtained by chromatography of human bile on Sephadex LH-20. The conjugates in this fraction were hydrolysed with β-glucuronidase and the liberated steroids fractionated on silicic acid. The following C19O2 and C21O2 steroids were identified by gas-liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry: 3α-hydroxyandrost-5-en-17-one, androsterone, etiocholanolone, dehydroepiandrosterone, 3α-hydroxy-5β-pregnan-20-one, pregnenolone, 5α-androstane-3α, 17β-diol, 5β-androstane-3α, 17β-diol, 5β-pregnane-3α, 20α-diol and pregn-5-ene-3β, 20α-diol.
