Abstract

Abstract The present paper deals with 27 taxa of Spirogyra LINK, collected from ponds and paddy fields in Quilon district, Kerala. Of these, Spirogyra baileyi SCHMIDLE, Spirogyra submarina (COLLINS) TRANSEAU, Spirogyra marvillosa TRANSEAU, Spirogyra bullata JAO, Spirogyra formosa (TRANSEAU) CZURDA, Spirogyra angolensis WELWITSCH, Spirogyra peipingensis JAO, Spirogyra rhizopus JAO, Spirogyra subzylindrospora JAO and Spirogyra nawashini KASANOFSKY are supposed to be new to India and all taxa are reported for the first time from Kerala.
