Abstract
Abstract Nonreciprocal transmission lines have found various applications in microwave technology. Because the governing equations of nonreciprocal transmission lines are quite complicated, the need for a graphical tool to assist in the analysis and design of nonreciprocal devices is obvious. The Smith chart has shown to be a very useful graphical tool when solving reciprocal uniform transmission‐line problems. However, the Smith chart needs to be modified for nonreciprocal transmission lines; this is called a generalized Smith chart. This novel chart can be easily generated using Matlab. It is found that the ZY Smith chart is a special case of a generalized ZY Smith chart. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
