Abstract

Future wireless networks are envisioned to be pervasive and ubiquitous. The integration of wireless sensor networks with wireless local area networks and the Internet is an important issue of future wireless networks. This paper has identified three challenges in the integration of wireless sensor networks with wireless local area networks and the Internet: (i) reliable communication issue among sensors, actuators, and applications under the energy-conservation constraints, (ii) time-synchronization issue, and (iii) system architecture issue. Solutions for those challenges are presented and a resulting integrated system has been illustrated.
