VITRECTOMY TECHNIQUES IN OCULAR TRAUMA

Abstract

This article outlines the techniques by which the Ocutome ® and Sutherland microscissors and forceps may be used to salvage severely injured eyes. Descriptions of the instruments are followed by case reports illustrating types of injury which have been successfully operated. Indications for vitrectomy in traumatized eyes are listed. There are many possible complications of vitrectomy in ocular trauma, some of which are discussed. However, skillfully used in appropriate cases the technique has great potential.
