Abstract
The cytology and cyto-taxonomy of aphids have been neglected in recent years owing to the lack of a quick, simple technique for preparing specimens. Ris (1942), Shinji (1931), Morgan (1909), and Stevens (1905) used sectioned material in their investigations. Collinp ( 1955), Dionne and Spicer (1957), and Cognetti (1961) used squash techn~ques. The squash method of Dionne and Sp~cer produces good clear preparations but the staining wit11 Gomori's hcmatosylin and the handling of aphids are slow and cumbersome. This paper describes a Feulgen squash method that is rapid, simple, and cff ective.
